A radio-button question — the respondent picks exactly one option from a list. It's the most common question type in most surveys: screening, yes/no paths, and any "pick the single best answer" prompt.
What respondents see#
A list of answer options, each with a radio button. Options can show text, an image, or both. Selecting one option deselects any other — only one answer is ever recorded.
When to use it#
- Yes/No and screening questions where only one answer applies.
- Any question where two answers would be contradictory (e.g. "What is your primary role?").
- As the base for tap-optimized variants like Fast Select and 5-Point Single Select — see Custom Interfaces.
Configuring it in the builder#
- Add or edit answer options in the properties panel — reorder by drag, recode values, or delete.
- Apply rich text or an image URL to any option; a thumbnail preview confirms the image looks right.
- Open the Validation tab for choice-specific auto-behavior (below).
- Open the Logic tab for display logic, skip logic, and piping.

Logic support#
Single choice uses selection-style condition operators — Selected, Not selected, Is any of, Is none of, Answered, and Not answered. See Logic, Flow & Conditions for the full operator tables and how to build display/skip logic rules.
Good to know#
- Auto-answer when only one option is displayed (Logic tab) and Skip if no choices present (Validation tab) exist specifically for surveys that narrow answer lists dynamically (via carry-forward or display logic) — without them, a respondent could land on a single-choice question with only one valid answer left, or none at all.
- Piping can insert the respondent's selected label into later question text.
- A respondent gives one answer here, so a rule elsewhere that checks two or more of its answers should use Is Selected (Any). Is Selected (All) of two or more answers can never be true. The Choice logic window marks such a rule Needs attention, and Fill down writes Is Selected (Any) for you. See What the warnings mean.
- Each choice can have its own display logic: Add choice logic in the choice's ⋯ menu, or Choice logic above the choices for every choice at once. See Display logic on choices.
