Sequential Select is a Custom Interfaces plugin built on matrix — brands (or items) are presented one at a time as a slide, and the respondent places each into an answer bucket before advancing.
What respondents see#
One item per slide, shown as a card grid of possible answer buckets. Tapping a bucket places the item and advances to the next slide. Three modes control what happens after a pick:
- Single — a picked item disappears from future slides; unpicked items are recorded against a system "None of these" column.
- Multiple — picked items carry forward and can be picked again on later slides.
- Reverse funnel — looks single-select, but once an item is picked it's automatically recorded on every subsequent slide too.
When to use it#
- Brand-by-brand sequential exercises (e.g., "which segment does each brand belong to?") where showing one brand per slide reduces cognitive load versus a single big matrix.
Configuring it in the builder#
Drag Sequential Select from the Custom Interfaces group in the question palette, or convert an existing matrix question. Rows are your items; columns are the answer buckets. Selection mode and plugin-specific behavior live in the question's Settings tab.

Good to know#
- In Single mode, the builder auto-injects a non-deletable, non-respondent-visible "None of these" system column so unpicked items still get a valid stored value in your export.
