Play Video / Audio

A library video or audio file, or a YouTube / Vimeo link, with optional must-watch.

On this page (5 sections)

A display-only block that plays one video or audio file from the Graphics Library, or a YouTube or Vimeo video. It collects no answer and can sit on a page with other questions.

What respondents see#

The question text, then the player. If the video must be watched, the line Next unlocks when the video ends (or …when the audio ends) shows under it with the time still to play, for example · 0:42 left, and the Next button stays greyed out until the video has played to the end. Nothing else on the page moves on before then either.

Configuring it in the builder#

  1. Click Play Video / Audio in the palette's Standard category.
  2. Click Insert video or audio on the question, or in Properties → Media, and pick a file from the Library tab or paste a YouTube or Vimeo link. Change picks another; Remove clears it. If your role may upload video and audio, the Library tab has Upload: the new file goes into the Graphics Library and is picked straight away, even while it is still being prepared.
  3. In Properties → Playback, set how it plays.

A Play Video / Audio with nothing chosen can be saved, but Publish stops on it with Choose a video or audio file until a file or link is picked.

Videos inside question text#

In the Rich Content Editor, Insert video or audio puts a Graphics Library file or a YouTube / Vimeo link anywhere in the text. Pasting a YouTube or Vimeo link on its own pastes it as a link and offers Embed as video under the text; Keep as link leaves it as it is.

Settings reference#

If a file can't be played (for example it is still being prepared), the respondent is never stuck: Next is released.

Data#

Play Video / Audio is not an answer, so it adds no columns to data exports unless you tick Export video and audio watch data in the export options: then each one gets three columns, <tag>_SECONDS (seconds actually played), <tag>_FINISHED (1 when played to the end, else 0) and <tag>_PLAYS. The Word questionnaire shows the video's poster (or a plain Video or Audio picture) with a line such as [Video: intro.mp4, 1:05, must watch] or [Video: YouTube link].
