Multigrid Sequential Carousel is a Custom Interfaces plugin built on matrix — it turns a large rating grid into a guided, one-concept-at-a-time carousel.
What respondents see#
Each concept (row) gets its own carousel slide. Within that slide, the respondent walks through a sequence of rating scales one at a time, tapping option cards that can show ascending scale icons — or a different icon on every option — instead of scanning a full grid at once.
When to use it#
- Rating many concepts across several scales without showing an overwhelming full grid.
- Long batteries where a guided, single-focus flow reduces respondent fatigue.
Configuring it in the builder#
Drag Multigrid Sequential Carousel from the Custom Interfaces group in the question palette, or convert an existing matrix question. Rows and columns are authored the same way as a standard matrix question; concept image/text display uses the standard Concept Display control. Plugin-specific behavior lives in the question's Settings tab.

Icons for every scale point#
Turn on Enable icons for every scale point (Settings → Option Icons) to give each option its own icon, for example a thumbs-up on "I like it" and a tick on "I expect it". Each column can use a different set.
- An icon button appears beside every option in the column's Scale options list. Click it to upload an icon or pick one from the library; click the small × to remove it.
- An option without its own icon shows the column's scale icon once, previewed faded in the builder.
- The column Scale icon picker is hidden while this is on. Its icon is kept, and turning the setting off brings back the ascending icons exactly as before.
- Icons stay with their option when Reverse direction is on, and answers are stored the same way in both modes.
Responses, exports and editing after sync#
A carousel added to a survey now reads in exports, Response Details and HM Admin as one ordinary single-select question per scale (column), showing the option's wording rather than its number. What respondents see and what is saved are unchanged.
You can keep editing the question after responses arrive, as with any other question. If HM Admin already holds it as one question per measure, changing its interface or deleting a measure removes those questions from HM Admin at the next sync, just as deleting a question does.
Display logic, skip logic and quotas on this question work in the survey as described below. In HM Admin, they are applied to each of the per-measure questions so the same people are counted. If a quota cannot be shown that way in HM Admin, it is left out of HM Admin, but the survey still enforces it.
Logic support#
A condition can look at one concept and one measure: pick the concept, the measure, then Is Selected, Is Not Selected, Is Greater Than, Is Greater Than or Equal to, Is Less Than or Is Less Than or Equal to, and choose the answer from that measure's list. Is Not Selected also matches a respondent who did not answer that concept and measure. Rules typed in before the answer list existed keep working when they hold the answer's number or its exact wording; others show (not in the list) until you pick an answer.
