Question Comments & Feedback

Leave threaded comments on individual questions, attach files or voice notes, and resolve feedback in real time.

On this page (10 sections)

Leave threaded feedback on individual questions, reply in real time, attach files or voice notes, and resolve conversations when they're handled.

What it is#

Question Comments let you hold a conversation about a specific question, right next to it — like sticky notes on a document. A tester can flag a problem, an editor can reply, and once it's handled the conversation can be resolved so it stops cluttering the view.

Each question can hold one or more threads (separate conversations). A thread is a chain of comments plus a status: Open (needs attention) or Resolved (done).

Where to find it#

A small comment icon with a count badge appears on each question in two places:

  • The Survey Builder — for editors and collaborators.
  • The Preview — where invited testers typically leave feedback.

The badge shows status at a glance:

BadgeMeaning
RedOpen comments need attention.
GreyComments exist but are all resolved.
NoneNo comments on that question yet.

Click the icon to open the comment panel for that question.

Starting a comment and replying#

  1. Click the comment icon on a question.
  2. Type your message in the box at the bottom.
  3. Press Enter to post (use Shift + Enter for a new line), or click the send arrow.

That first message starts a thread. Anyone with access can reply from the same panel. Replies show as chat bubbles with the author's name and time. If someone else is typing, a live "… is typing" indicator appears; while they record a voice note it shows "… is recording."

When a question has several conversations#

A "Threads" menu lists each conversation by its opening line — click an entry to jump to it. A summary line (e.g. "3 conversations · 1 still open") tells you what still needs work.

Resolving and reopening#

  • Click Resolve when a conversation is handled — it turns grey and becomes read-only.
  • Click Reopen to continue it later.
  • Resolved threads aren't deleted; they stay as a record.
  • If every thread is resolved but you have new feedback, the panel offers "Start a new conversation" so it gets its own thread.

Who can resolve? The thread's original author, or anyone with edit permission on the survey.

Attachments & voice notes#

Back up feedback with a screenshot, document, or quick voice note.

Three ways to attach a file:

  1. Click the paperclip and pick a file.
  2. Drag and drop a file onto the message box.
  3. Paste an image from your clipboard (e.g. a screenshot) — like Microsoft Teams.

To record a voice note: click the microphone, speak, then Stop. You can delete the recording before sending.

Good to know:

  • Files and recordings upload only when you hit Send — remove one before sending and nothing is uploaded.
  • Images open in a dimmed pop-up preview (press Esc or click outside to close).
  • Voice notes get a built-in player.
  • Size limit: 10 MB per file. Images, PDFs, Word/Excel, CSV/TXT, ZIP, and common audio are supported.
  • File links are encrypted — the underlying storage path is never exposed.

If you don't see the paperclip or microphone, your administrator has turned attachments off for this deployment. Text comments still work.

Editing & deleting your own comments#

  • You can edit a comment you wrote for up to 5 minutes after posting; edited comments are marked "· edited."
  • You can delete your own comment at any time. Deleting the last comment in a thread removes the thread, and any attached file is removed from storage too.
  • You only see edit/delete controls on your own comments.

Live updates#

Comments, typing, and recording indicators update in real time for everyone viewing the same survey — no refresh needed. A comment posted in the builder appears in the preview within moments, and vice versa.

Permissions at a glance#

ActionWho can do it
Read threads & post commentsAnyone who can see the survey (editors, collaborators, invited testers)
Resolve / reopen a threadThe thread's author, or anyone with edit permission
Edit a commentThe comment's author (within 5 minutes)
Delete a comment / threadThe comment's author/creator, or anyone with edit permission

Troubleshooting#

The comment icon is missing on a question. The question may not exist in the version you're viewing (e.g. removed in the draft). Comments stay attached to the original question and reappear if it returns.

My comment didn't send. Your draft text is kept in the box. Check your connection and retry. Resolved threads are read-only — reopen the thread or start a new conversation.

Recording "isn't supported." Recording needs microphone permission and a supported browser. Allow mic access when prompted.
