Help Assistant

Ask questions about Intuify in plain language and get answers with their sources, plus the guided walkthroughs that point at the control a step is about.

On this page (9 sections)

Ask questions about Intuify in plain language and get an answer with links to the documentation it came from. The assistant reads the docs; it never changes your survey.

Opening it#

The Help Assistant sits on a small tab at the edge of the screen on every page inside the app. Click it to open the chat panel.

  • Drag the tab, or focus it and use the arrow keys, to move it out of your way. Where you put it is remembered on that browser.
  • Esc closes the panel. Your conversation is kept.
  • If you do not see the tab, your organization does not have the assistant switched on yet. Ask your Intuify account team.

Asking a question#

Type the question the way you would ask a colleague. "How do I stop a respondent seeing a question unless they picked option 3?" works better than "display logic".

Every answer that came out of the documentation ends with the pages it used. Click one to open the full guide. If the assistant has nothing in its documentation about what you asked, it says so rather than guessing.

  • Enter sends, Shift+Enter adds a new line.
  • Answers stream in as they are written.

What it will not do:

  • It cannot edit your survey, add a question, change logic, publish or delete anything. It is read only by design. For changes, use the AI Assistant in the sidebar, which is a different tool.
  • It does not see your response data. It answers from the product documentation.

Conversations#

The panel keeps your past conversations.

ControlWhat it does
New conversationStarts a fresh thread. The old one stays in the list
ConversationsOpens the list of your threads
RenameGives a thread your own title
DeleteRemoves a thread and its messages for good

Conversations are yours. Nobody else in your organization sees them, and they are separate from the survey building assistant's history.

Guided walkthroughs ("Show me")#

Early preview. Guided walkthroughs are being tried internally first and are switched off for everyone else. If you do not see a Show me button, this section does not apply to your account yet.

When the assistant has a walkthrough for what you asked, a Show me button appears under the answer. Press it and the assistant walks you through the screen instead of only describing it. Walkthroughs cover common tasks, such as randomizing answer options, making a question required, adding display logic, setting up a quota and looping a section, and more are added as people ask for them.

What that looks like:

  • A ring is drawn around the control the step is about, and the rest of the screen dims slightly.
  • A small panel at the bottom of the screen says which step you are on and what to do, for example Step 2 of 4.
  • You do it. The assistant points; it never clicks, types, submits or changes anything on your behalf. Nothing moves until you move it.
  • When you have done the step, it notices and moves to the next one.
<!-- SCREENSHOT NEEDED: help-assistant-show-me.png - a procedural answer in the panel with the "Show me" button visible beneath it. --> <!-- SCREENSHOT NEEDED: help-assistant-guide-step.png - a guide running in the builder: the ring around a real control, the dimmed surround, and the step panel at the bottom reading "Step 1 of N" with its instruction. -->

While a walkthrough is running#

You seeWhat it means
Finding that controlIt is looking for the thing this step is about
That control is not on this screen any moreThe screen changed underneath it. Ask again
Paused: you left the screen this step is onGo back, or press Resume guide
Before this stepThe step touches something worth a second look, such as deleting. It asks first, and you choose Continue or Stop
Done: that is what this step was waiting forThe step is finished

Esc stops a walkthrough at any point, as does the close button on the step panel. Stopping is not a failure and costs you nothing.

If you have asked your system for reduced motion, the ring does not pulse and scrolling is instant. The step panel says so.

Pointing at something to ask about it#

Early preview. This is part of the same internal trial as guided walkthroughs. If the Point at something button is not in the panel, it is not on for your account yet.

Sometimes it is easier to point than to describe. Three ways in, all the same thing:

Way inHow
The buttonPoint at something in the chat panel, beside the send button
The keyboardPress ? anywhere in the app, as long as you are not typing in a field
The mouseHold Alt and click the thing you want to ask about

A bar appears at the top of the screen reading Click anything to ask about it. Esc to cancel, and a ring follows your pointer over whatever you are hovering. Click the control and the assistant answers a question about it.

While that mode is on, the app does not respond to clicks. That is on purpose: pointing at Delete question must not delete the question. Esc or the close button on the bar leaves the mode, and the app is immediately live again. Leaving the page leaves the mode too.

<!-- SCREENSHOT NEEDED: help-assistant-point-mode.png - point-and-ask mode on in the survey builder: the top bar reading "Click anything to ask about it. Esc to cancel." and the ring following the pointer over one question card control. -->

What the assistant can see#

While a walkthrough is running, or while you are pointing at something, the assistant reads the screen the way a screen reader does: the names of buttons, menus, fields and headings, so it knows what is in front of you.

  • Respondent answers and personal details are removed before anything is read. Response tables, verbatim answers, email lists, contact details and the people in your team are replaced with a placeholder.
  • What you type into a field is never read, only the field's label.
  • Sometimes it takes one picture. Some screens are mostly icons with no labels to read, and a picture is the only way to tell them apart. It photographs the part of the screen it is working on wherever it can, and the visible screen when it cannot narrow it down. Either way the respondent answers and personal details above are painted over before the picture is taken, not after, so they are not in the picture at all. It never takes a picture when it is not in a walkthrough or a point-and-ask, and it never photographs anything below the fold or in another tab.
  • When you are not in a walkthrough and not pointing at something, nothing on your screen is read at all.

If something is wrong#

  • No tab, no panel: the assistant is not switched on for your organization.
  • No Show me button: guided walkthroughs are not on for your account, the answer was not a set of steps, or there is no walkthrough for that task yet. Questions like yours are collected so the team can add one.
  • A walkthrough cannot find a control: the page may have changed since the answer was written. Ask the question again so it can look at the current screen.
  • Nothing on the page responds to a click: you are probably still in point-and-ask mode. Press Esc. If that does not do it, reload the page and tell your Intuify account team.
  • ? types a question mark instead of opening point-and-ask: you were in a text field, which is intended. Click somewhere outside it first.
  • An answer looks wrong: tell your Intuify account team which question you asked. Answers carry their sources, so a wrong answer usually means a documentation page needs fixing.
